A Writer’s Secret.

Posted on March 24, 2015 by ruthhay Posted in Uncategorized .

Here’s the inside story on what it’s really like when I sit down to write.
The truth is I have some ideas ready and a note or two, but I write every day now to see what is going to happen to my characters. You see, it’s as if they are waiting for me to let them live a bit more. We are all in the same time frame and eager to find out what we will do.
Now don’t think this sounds weird! I am perfectly normal! I think it is because I have arrived at being an author after a long life of experiences and of observation. Sometimes I look at a photograph of a place I have travelled to and it all comes rushing back. The feelings, the wonder, the heat of the sun, whether I was happy, anxious or just hungry!
With these vivid scenes available to me, you can understand why the writing comes to me so easily.
For example, I was writing a powerful section this morning. It completed a story arc begun in a previous novel in my current Seven Days Series. I felt the emotions of my characters and although I finished the section, I know I will be glad to re-read it tomorrow and off I will go again on another writing journey.
Who wouldn’t love this?

Covering the Covers.

Posted on March 12, 2015 by ruthhay Posted in Uncategorized .

Book covers are important. I always knew this although in my previous life as a teacher-librarian, I was more concerned with the author’s name and writing reputation.
Now, my view has changed. As an author on the internet, I find the book cover has a huge influence on the viewer. The reading audience is so enormous, and the number of books available online, so gargantuan, that the quick glance must be captured immediately before your prospective buyer has zipped on to the next image.
This is where I have had great good luck in finding an expert who actually enjoys creating spectacular book covers for me. You may know her as successful romance author Zoe York, but she is also a generous friend.
Now, you don’t have to take my word for this. Just look at my Amazon Kindle ebooks, particularly the two recent additions, Sea Changes and Sea Tides. I watched Zoe design these covers with such attention to detail that they are a work of art. As the author, I was amazed at the way in which the covers captured the essence of the stories within.
That’s not all! Soon to be published to Amazon is my new series Called Seven Days. Just wait till you see the covers for these!SeaChanges
