After a grand holiday in the south of England I received two pieces of news.
The first was that the Magnet magazine’s books editor did not find my novel, Auld Acquaintance, to be suitable for their readers.
This was a bit of an unwelcome surprise for me. My first book has been well received in many places, by many readers. I was not unduly upset, however, only disappointed that people in the Uckfield area would not get to know about Time Out of Mind, the sequel which is set largely in their own East Sussex town. Ah well! I thought; their loss.
The second piece of news sent that disappointment to a far off realm. While I was away, my BookBub ad went into operation on the internet. On the very first day there were well over 37000 free downloads of the same title, Auld Acquaintance. In addition there were almost 300 book sales resulting from that. I was astonished at this result. Two things came to mind.
First, the internet is an amazing place for an author to be.
