Life sometimes sends us troubles in spades. One of those times is now for my family. Not one, but three, serious health issues for my sister and niece in England. It is so difficult when you are far away and can’t see for yourself what is happening. My niece is a good email correspondent but she has twins and not much time or energy left at the end of the day.
Meantime, at home, there are other issues, although not as urgent as the ones I have mentioned. These require close watching nevertheless.
I comfort myself with sessions in the garden. Digging in the earth and encouraging a plant to grow to its potential is a substitute of sorts for what I wish I could do for others. Watering the garden is my early-morning task these days. We are greatly in need of rain this summer. It is a contrast to last year when rain was plentiful and our rain barrel was overflowing. It is sad to see areas in the states and elsewhere that have floods currently. Too much or not enough seems to be the pattern. Climate change or unpredictable weather can cause great hardship for farmers and citizens.
If you are in a situation of worry because of trouble or strife, I wish you strength and resolution. Take what comfort you can from nature and try to wait with patience for better days. With rain comes renewal and a freshness that brings hope.
